(Ostmedaille und Verleihungsurkunde eines spanischen Freiwilligen der Blauen Division). Constructed of silvered and toned zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, unmarked, measuring 35.72 mm (w) x 44.36 (h) mm, weighing 20.2 grams, accompanied by its original issue package, constructed of brown paper stock, the exterior bearing a maker’s mark of “WALTER & HENLEIN, GABLONZ”, measuring 55 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
Accompanied by its original award document, named to “SOLDATEN FRANCISCO DE CASTRO BARBA”, a Spanish volunteer of the Blue Division, dated 15 March 1945, certified by the handwritten signature of Generalmajor Hans Doerr and the stamped seal of the German Embassy in Spain, measuring 14 cm (w) x 20 cm, demonstrating a central folding crease, a rare official Blue Division award document in extremely fine condition.
Also accompanied by a Blue Division veteran’s badge, constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the reverse with a boutonniere-style attachment, unmarked, measuring 15 mm (w) x 20 mm (h), a Spanish-made example in extremely fine condition.
