(Deutsches Kreuz in Silber und Gold). A pair of German Crosses in 1957 versions, including:
1 A Silver Grade award, constructed of neusilber with enamels, the obverse consisting of a double-overlaid eight-pointed radiant starburst, bearing a central silvered disc overlaid by a raised War Merit Cross with Swords, situated within a circular laurel leaf wreath, wrapped in ribbon and joined together at the bottom by a plaque bearing an institution date of “1941”, trimmed along both the inner and outer edges with red enamels, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, with barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 64.14 mm (w) x 63.70 mm (h), weighing 75.4 grams, in extremely fine condition.
2. A Gold Grade award, constructed of neusilber with gilt and enamels, the obverse consisting of a double-overlaid eight-pointed radiant starburst, bearing a central silvered disc overlaid by a raised Iron Cross with a blackened core and three central oak leaves, situated within a circular gilded laurel leaf wreath, wrapped in ribbon and joined together at the bottom by a plaque bearing an institution date of “1941”, trimmed along both the inner and outer edges with red enamels, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 64.06 mm (w) x 63.94 mm (h), weighing 74.4 grams, demonstrating a striking patina to the obverse rays, in extremely fine condition.
