Description
Description
(Volksmarine Dolch für einen Admiral mit Gehänge und Etui). An extremely well-preserved Volksmarine (People’s Navy) Admiral’s dagger, measuring 39.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 25 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel dagger which features double-sided dual fullers, and which retains factory-original sharpening to the tip. The obverse ricasso is stamped with a serial number of “03921”. The blade sits securely within a gilded brass crossguard which culminates at both ends in gently curved stylized acorns, with an intact leather (suede) buffer pad covering the seam. A functional push-button set into the obverse of the crossguard connects to a clip emanating from the ricasso to release the scabbard lock. A single piece of ribbed off-white celluloid composes the handle grip, while the dagger completes with a rounded and gilded bronze pommel which bears a raised national emblem. Accompanying the dagger is its original scabbard, constructed of a black anodized magnetic shaft. Gilded bronze fixtures are secured to both the tip and throat, with the latter bearing a raised oak leaf and national emblem. Two rings emanate from the side of the throat fixtures for the accommodation of a hanger, while a catch within the throat locks onto the blade’s clip. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, the dagger remains in an extremely fine condition.
Also accompanying the dagger is a matching hanger, consisting of a functional gilded metal alloy spring clip with dual loops set into the lower edge. Each loop retains a dark blue wool strap, reinforced with a rigid buckram core, topped by machine-embroidered golden threaded tresses with dark blue threaded borders. The straps are adjusted with functional gilded brass buckles, and culminate in functional spring clips of identical construction. The hanger is accompanied by a strap, similarly constructed of dark blue wool with golden yellow embroidery, which is looped around a metal D-ring for uniform attachment. The hanger is unmarked and measures 29.5 cm in total length. Demonstrating no evident damage or wear, it remains in an extremely fine condition.
Both components are concealed within their original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux red leather exterior liner. The interior features a maroon wool lid liner, hinge cover, and fitted bed. It closes with two functional metal snap buttons. Unmarked, the case measures 43 cm (l) x 17 cm (w) x 4.5 cm (h). One of the two hinges has partially detached, but the case remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
