Germany. A Wehrpaß And Health Log To Obergefreiter Johann Simon

Wehrpaß measuring 106x148mm, extremely fine condition with light scuffing. Health sheet consisting of three pages, measuring 211x300mm, and one health card, 148x103mm, near very fine condition with some fraying and creasing. The Wehrpaß is dated to Bamberg on October 5, 1943.

Footnote: Johann Simon was born on September 22, 1890 in Bamberg (Bavaria). He was a veteran of the First War, taking part from February 18 to December 2, 1918. During the Second War he was first mustered on October 5, 1943. Due to a joint traumata of his right shoulder Simon was deemed fit for home garrison service only. He was drafted on January 28, 1944. This time his physical problems weren’t deemed so severe and he was classified as conditionally fit for war service. Simon initially joined the Landesschützen Replacement Battalion 13 and on February 10 he was transferred to the 2nd Company of Landesschützen Training Battalion 13. Just a few days later, however, Simon fell down the stairs during roll call. A letter from February 16 from his battalion’s doctor to the hospital asks for a chest x-ray due to a suspected rib fracture. The hospital found a probable infraction of the 7th rib and recommended an imbricated bandage and two to three weeks of office duty. On March 17 Simon’s training was completing and he was placed in the Landesschützen Battalion 847 in his hometown Bamberg. On October 1, 1944 he was promoted to Gefreiter (Lance Corporal), and on February 1, 1945 to Obergefreiter (Corporal).
