"A fine example of a 1939-1940 issue Free City of Danzig Cross First Class (Freie Stadt Danzig Danziger Kreuz I Klasse); a gilt bronze elongated white enameled cross pattée; the obverse with two vertically oriented gilt bronze Latin crosses with a Danzig crown on the top of the upper cross; the reverse with a vertical pin and a functional hinge/catch assembly. In its original case of issue; constructed of pressed paper, with a red faux leather (leatherette exterior); the exterior of the lid embossed with a golden Danzig coat of arms; lined interior lid embossed with the maker mark “Juwelier Hütse Berlin - Baden-Baden - Wien”; slotted medal bed; fully intact fabric hinge cover; functional spring catch with stud release; functional; exterior metal hinge; measuring 73 mm x 95 mm; overall extremely fine condition.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
