Germany. A Collection Of Career Medals And Awards Of A First & Second War German Pilot

1) A First and Second War German medal bar grouping, consisting of

1) An Iron Cross 1914 Second Class; a cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border; on loop for suspension; the obverse with a raised central “W”, with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm; the reverse with a central oak-leaf branch consisting of three oak leaves, with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbers on the lower arm, a raised Prussian crown on the upper arm, with “FW” in equally raised lettering directly below; measuring 43.13 mm x 43.16 mm.

2) A Mecklenburg-Schwerin Military Merit Cross II Class; in gilt bronze; a cross pattée with ribbed edges; on loop for suspension; the obverse depicting the royal cipher of duke Friedrich Franz in the center, with the Mecklenburg-Schwerin crown raised on the upper arm, and “1914” raised on the lower arm; the reverse inscribed “Für Auszeichnung im Kriege” (For distinction in war); measuring 41.10 mm x 40.91 mm.

3) A Hindenburg Cross; bronzed metal (magnetic) cross pattée with crossed swords between the arms; inscribed “1914-1918” in the center of the cross within an open laurel wreath; maker marked “39 R. V. Pforzheim” on the reverse; measuring 38.22 mm x 37.88 mm.

4) A Police 18-Year Long Service Decoration; in silvered bronze; the obverse with a German eagle with spread-out wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons, superimposed onto the centre of the cross; the reverse inscribed “Für treue Dienste in der Polizei” (German - For loyal service in the Police); on loop for suspension; measuring 43.42 mm x 43.44 mm.

5) A Mecklenburg-Schwerin Lifesaving medal; in heavily silvered bronze; measuring 29.42 mm in diameter; metal backer, horizontal pinback; measuring 153 mm x 38 mm; all mounted via there original ribbons except the Polizei Long Service Cross, which has come undone from its original mounting. - With its matching medal ribbon bar with eight ribbons, consisting of 1) An Iron Cross 1914 Second Class ribbon, 2) A Mecklenburg-Schwerin Military Merit Cross Second Class ribbon, 3) A Hindenburg Cross ribbon, 4) A Lippe Schaumburg Loyal Service Cross ribbon, 5) A Selesian Eagle Second Class ribbon, 6) A Long Service Decoration ribbon, 7) A Police Long Service Decoration Ribbon, 8) Mecklenburg-Schwerin Lifesaving medal ribbon; metal core (magnetic); horizontal pinback; measuring 120 mm x 18 mm.

2) A First War German Black Grade Wound Badge; oval shaped blackened metal; the the obverse pebbled with a Stahlhelm in the centre superimposed on crossed swords within a wreath of laurel leaves with a tied bow at the bottom; the reverse plain with a vertical needle style pin, barrel hinge, and round wire catch; measuring 42.76 mm x 37.64 mm; weighing 6.2 grams.

3) A First War Prussian Pilot’s (Flugzeugführer) Badge; in stamped silver; hollow; with very fine details; the obverse with a standard pilot’s badge design within a wreath consisting of oak and laurel leaves, with a bow on the bottom of the wreath, ordained by the Prussian crown at the top; the reverse engraved “am 4. Juni 1919 verliehen - Riga (Kurland)” in script; vertical replacement pinback, with a functional hinge/catch assembly; small breather hole; marked “800” for silver content and with a trademark double-headed eagle; measuring 71.79 mm x 45.08 mm; weighing 24.7 grams.

4) A NSDAP Party Member’s Lapel Badge; in silvered bronze and black, white, and pebbled red enamels; the obverse with a black mobile swastika (Hakenkreuz) in the center within a bed of white enamels, with a red enameled edge inscribed “Nationalsozialistische DAP”; the reverse plain, with a horizontal pinback; maker marked “RZM 42” for “Kerbach & Israel, Dresden” on the revese; measuring 22.95 mm in diameter; weighing 5.0 grams.

5) A NSKOV (Nationalsozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung/National Socialist War Victim’s Care) membership badge; in silvered bronze; vertical pinback; maker marked “Deschler, München” on the reverse; measuring 15.31 mm x 30.60 mm.

6) A Civil Gliding Proficiency Class C Badge - Cloth Version; constructed of twisted silver aluminum bullion hand embroidery in the form of three vertically stacked gulls withing a wreath; on a grey wool backer; with its paper backer fully intact on the reverse; measuring 49 mm in diameter.

7) Two 1914 Baltic Crosses; vertical pins, with functional catch/hinge assemblies; measuring 45.08 mm x 44.69 mm, weighing 13.9 grams and 45.03 mm x 45.10 mm, weighing 13.8 grams.

8) All contained in its large wooden case; constructed of lightweight wood, with a glossy black exterior; the exterior of the lid with an aluminum Luftwaffe eagle; lined interior lid with four campaign clasps (Frankreich, Luftkrieg, Russland, Belgien) attached to the liner, with loops sewn into the fabric for hanging of the awards; the base of the box similarly lined, with more loops sewn to the fabric for attachment of the medals; the case held open by two chains - attached to either side of the case, with two functional exterior hinges and two functional exterior metal closures; measuring 347 mm x 80 mm.
