France, Second Restoration. An Order of the Legion of Honour in Gold, Officer, c.1830

Instituted May 19, 1802. An Officer’s cross comprising the cross body of a Second Restoration (1816-1830) type, with the replaced medallions of an obverse (First Empire c.1810) and reverse (La Presidence 1851- 1852) type, in 18K Gold, a white enamelled cross with ball finials and green enamelled wreath segments in each quadrant, surmounted by a moveable Gold crown, marked with a Rams Head on the 6 o’clock tassel denoting Paris manufacture between 1819-1830, the obverse medallion with the portrait of Napoleon, the reverse bearing crossed enamelled flags, measures 41.65mm (w) x 64.68mm (h - inclusive of crown), weighs 18.64 grams including the original red ribbon with bow, enamel chips and cracks throughout the cross, areas of the crown have been crushed inward, replacement medallions, an aged decoration in near very fine condition.
