France, I Empire. A Letter from Napoleon with Orders for his Minister of War, 1810

This short, five-line (one line redacted) handwritten letter is dated 12 October 1810 and signed by Napoleon Bonaparte. He writes to Monsieur Le Duc de Feltre, Minister of War, instructing him to order one of the line infantry regiments of his guard to go to Saumur. Attached to the bottom left corner of the parchment is a small note, confirming that the letter was received on 13 October and handed over to M. Gerard that same day. Measuring at 18.5cm (w) x 23cm (h), this letter was written on period paper with gilded edges and is in mint condition. 

Footnote: Henri-Jacques-Guillaume Clarke, the first Duc de Feltre, was a French military officer, diplomat, and politician who served as Minister of War of the First French Empire from 1807 to 1814. He was made a Marshal of France in 1816. His role in thwarting the British invasion of the Netherlands, the Walcheren Campaign in 1809, led to the emperor naming him Duc de Feltre. Napoleon came to depend on his authority and he was instrumental in organizing the administration and building the Grande Armée in 1811–1812.
