France, Fifth Republic. An Order of the Legion of Honour, Commander in Case, c.1960

(Legionne d’Honneur). Instituted May 19 1802. Type X. Fifth Republic. (1962 -). A large decoration in silver gilt, presenting a white enamelled five armed Maltese cross with ball finials, segments of green enamelled laurel and oak leaves in each quadrant constituting a surrounded wreath, the obverse medallion presents the left facing head of Marianne, surrounded by a blue ring inscribed REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE, the reverse medallion presenting crossed French flags, surrounded by a blue enamelled ring inscribed HONNEUR ET PATRIE 29 FLOREAL AN X, surmounted by a large enamelled wreath and loop, measures 61.5 mm (w) x 91.3 mm (h - inclusive of wreath and integral ring suspension), weighs 77.05 grams, accompanied by its full length neck ribbon, heavily gilded, slight film over the arms of the cross, gilt wear to obverse medallion, in very fine condition. 

Accompanied by its case of issue, a red leatherette exterior, red velvet interior with lid marked MONNAIE DE PARIS, measures 10 cm (w) x 16.5 cm (l) x 4 cm (d), hinge and clasp functional, light wear, in very fine condition.
