Instituted January 28, 1919 by Baron Mannerheim. Type II (1944 -). In silver, a Grand Cross Set consisting of a white enamelled cross with a crowned lion holding a sword in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features a white rose with a narrow blue exterior, the reverse is white, measures 53.9mm (w) x 59.8mm (h), weighs 104.3 grams (including sash), marked on the ring with A.T makers mark denoting A. Tillander manufacture, R5 date mark for 1922, national crown in heart contour used from 1810-1925, and 813H silver mark (1895-1972), worn on a full length blue sash, enamels intact, very dark patina, in extremely fine condition.
Accompanied by the star of the Order, a five-armed star with clusters of seven smooth rays with three scaled silver gilt rays in between, the obverse medallion featuring a white enamel rose surrounded by a black enamel ring inscribed ISANMAAN HYVAKSI, the reverse presents a single gilt pin, reverse is marked A.T makers mark denoting A. Tillander manufacture, R5 date mark for 1922, national crown in heart contour used from 1810-1925, and 813H silver mark (1895-1972), measures 84.8mm (w) x 84.4mm (h), weighs 87.0 grams, enamels intact, dark patina, light gilt wear, remains in extremely fine condition.
