Instituted in 1935. In bronze, a trilobe medal with the obverse showing a portrait of Emperor Haile Selassie wearing the Ethiopian Crown, with the inscription in Ge’ez “Haile Selassie the First”, the reverse bearing the three-pointed Star of the Trinity above a pair of crossed batons, reverse pin, 51.2 mm (h) x 39.3 mm (w), on original ribbon with one palm clasp, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Distinguished Military Medal of Haile Selasse I was instituted by Emperor Haile Selassie I during the campaign against the Italians who had overrun Ethiopia from 1935 to 1941. It was awarded for acts of extreme gallantry and for distinguished military service. If the recipient is awarded the medal for a second time — a bronze palm leaf worn on the medal ribbon.
