Multi-piece construction, in silver with red, light blue and dark blue enamels, Egyptian maker marked on the reverse cartouche, Egyptian assay and silver standard marked on the reverse cartouche and on the reverse of the silver gilt suspension, measuring 49.7 mm (w) x 64 mm (h) inclusive of its stylized suspension, intact enamels, original ribbon, extremely fine. In its case of issue, hardshelled design on both the lid and base with a forest green simulated leather exterior on all sides, the lid impressed with the Egyptian Republic cypher above the class designation "5" in Eastern Arabic in black ink, with a darkened area below indicating a once president label, all of which is framed by an ornate rule in black ink on the bevelled edges, the inside lid lined in white satin and padded, a white cardboard insert placed within the base, with a white satin lining in the base, raised platform in white felt with a recessed medal bed for the badge, measuring 80 mm (w) x 110 mm (h) x 30.2 mm (d), case also extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Republic was instituted in 1953 and awarded for valuable services to Egypt, in five grades, plus the collar. It has had four types: Type I (1953-1958), Type II (1958-1972), Type III (1972-1984) and Type IV (1984 -date).
