Description
(Nishan al-Nil). Instituted in 1915. Wooded-framed on both the lid and base, with a steel blue cloth fabric exterior, the bottom covered in a greenish-black paper, the lid bearing the Royal crown and cypher, the inside of the lid lined in white satin and padded, with a foil maker's label inscribed "J. LATTES FOURNISSEUR de S.H le SULTAN CAIRE-GENÈVE", the lining exhibiting the impressions of the once present badge and breast star of the Order, soiled raised platform in white velvet and housing a recessed medal bed and triple-slotted medal bed for the badge and breast star respectively, hinged, latch closure, measuring 120 mm (w) x 230 mm (h) x 55 mm (d), with wear, light soiling and water spotting evident on the fabric exterior, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Nile was instituted in 1915 by Sultan Hussein Kamel, to reward persons, military or civilian, who had rendered useful service to Egypt. It was reconstituted under the Arab Republic of Egypt on June 18, 1953, but without the crown. In theKingdom of Egypt, the Order of the Nile ranked beneath the Order of Ismail.
