(Medaljen for Druknedes Redning). Instituted in 1812. In silver, obverse illustrating the right-facing bust of King Christian (reign: 1863-1906), surrounded by the inscription "CHRISTIAN DEN NIENDE DANMARKS KONGE.", engraver marked "CONRADSEN" (Danish sculptor and medalist Harald Conradsen: November 17, 1817 - March 10, 1905) at the base of the bust, reverse inscribed "AF FARENS SVAELG FREMBLOMSTRER PRIIS OG LÖN" within an open-ended wreath bearing multiple plants, measuring 47 mm (w) x 54 mm (h) inclusive of its integral oval ring, edge nicks, original ribbon, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Medal for Saving Life from Drowning was instituted on August 19, 1812, established by King Frederick VI and awarded in silver to recognize individuals who have saved someone from drowning in the circumstance that both the rescuer and person drowning are in great danger, and awarded in gold to recognize higher acts of extraordinary rescues. The obverse of the medal was altered with each reigning monarch, and in 1881 the reverse of the medal was changed to the same design as the one currently in use.
