Cuba, Republic. An Order of Frank Pais, II Class

(Orden Frank País), Four-piece construction, 44 mm wide, 51,2 mm high including suspension ring, silvered and gilt metal with blue and red enamel centre featuring the portrait of Frank País with his name inscribed to the right, star-shaped base with alternating smooth and faceted rays, reverse displaying the Cuban national coat of arms circumscribed “Republica de Cuba / Consejo de Estado,” fitted with a period ribbon in equal stripes of red, white, and blue, accompanied by its matching ribbon bar, overall very fine.

Footnotes: Instituted by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba on 10 October 1976, the Orden Frank País was created in honour of Frank País García (1934–1957), a revolutionary leader and organizer of the 26th of July Movement in Santiago de Cuba, who was killed in combat against Batista’s forces. It is awarded in two classes to Cuban citizens for outstanding service in education, culture, and the defence of the Revolution, particularly for distinguished contributions to national consciousness and social advancement.
