Cuba, Republic. An Officers Belt Buckle c.1940s-1950s

Republic of Cuba officers belt buckle, gilt brass rectangular buckle with rounded corners, the obverse featuring a silvered colour metal applied Cuban national emblem consisting of a Phrygian cap above shield and fasces motif within an oval border, the reverse retaining its original attachment hardware and belt catch assembly, exhibiting oxidation, verdigris, surface wear, scratches, and age-related patina throughout, measuring 70 mm x 50.6 mm.

Footnote: This style of officers’ belt buckle was worn by members of the Cuban armed forces during the Republican period, particularly during the 1940s and 1950s under the governments preceding the Cuban Revolution of 1959.
