Description
Description
(Medalla Por la Victoria Cuba–Etiopía), Circular gilt metal, 32,2 mm in diameter, obverse featuring the map outlines of Cuba and Ethiopia joined by radiating lines from a star symbolising cooperation, the inscription “Por la Victoria Cuba–Etiopía 1978–1989” around the upper edge, reverse displaying the Cuban national coat of arms circumscribed “Republica de Cuba / Consejo de Estado,” suspended from a pentagonal ribbon with vertical stripes of red, white, blue, yellow, and green, accompanied by its matching ribbon bar, overall very fine.
Footnotes: The Medalla Por la Victoria Cuba–Etiopía was issued by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba to commemorate Cuba’s military intervention in the Horn of Africa between 1978 and 1989. The decoration was awarded to Cuban troops and personnel who participated in operations supporting the Ethiopian government during the Ogaden War and subsequent campaigns against Somali and rebel forces. The design highlights the geographical connection between the two nations, reflecting Cuba’s foreign military engagements during the Cold War and its strategic involvement in African conflicts aligned with its political allies.
