5. (Medalla al Mérito de las Fuerzas Armadas) the Armed Forces Merit Medal , in gilt bronze with crossed arms and military trophies;
6. (Medalla de la Reconciliación Nacional) the National Reconciliation Medal , in gilt bronze with one service star affixed to the ribbon, the reverse dated “4 SEPT 1933” and commemorating the fall of the Machado regime and the restoration of national unity, the complete bar retaining original ribbons and horizontal pinback fitting to the reverse, measuring 138.2 mm x 108.7 mm, in fine condition.
The bar is in good condition, with slight wear, and service use scuffing visible throughout.
Footnote: This substantial medal bar represents a Cuban military officer or senior non-commissioned officer with a long and distinguished career during the Republican era. The two Orders of Naval or Military Merit were among the most prestigious conduct and merit decorations awarded by the Republic of Cuba. The Long Service Medal with seven chevrons denotes an exceptionally lengthy period of military service. The National Reconciliation Medal was instituted following the political upheaval of September 1933 and recognized those who contributed to restoring stability after the overthrow of President Gerardo Machado.
