Cuba, Republic. A Group of Nine Distinction and Commemorative Medals

1. (Medalla “Antonio Maceo”) silvered bronze, 31 mm x 35.3 mm inclusive of suspension ring, obverse bearing the bust of Antonio Maceo Grajalés facing left, reverse inscribed “República de Cuba Consejo de Estado” around the Cuban national arms, on a ribbon with alternating blue, white and red stripes with a yellow edge, minor contact marks on obverse from wear.

2. (Medalla “Jesús Menéndez”) bronze gilt, 30.4 mm x 34.8 mm, obverse with portrait of Jesús Menéndez Larrondo within a cogwheel border, reverse inscribed “República de Cuba Consejo de Estado” around the Cuban arms, on a ribbon of red, green and yellow stripes, slight staining on ribbon from wear.

3. (Medalla “Olo Pantoja” II Class) silvered bronze, 30 mm x 35.4 mm, obverse with uniformed bust of Olo Pantoja facing forward, reverse “República de Cuba Consejo de Estado” around the arms of Cuba, on a ribbon of blue, white and green stripes.

4. (Medalla “José Tey”) bronze gilt, 30.2 mm x 35.2 mm, obverse with bust of José Tey Díaz, reverse with inscription “República de Cuba Consejo de Estado” and Cuban coat of arms, on a ribbon of red and white diagonal stripes.

5. (Distinción “Constructor de Obras Nucleares X Años”) Distinction for 10 years a Builder of Nuclear Works, silvered bronze, 30 mm x 35.2 mm, obverse depicting a stylized nuclear atom emblem surrounded by “distinción x constructor de obras nucleares,” reverse “República de Cuba Ministerio de la Construcción,” mounted from a straight bar suspension.

6. (Distinción “Enrique Hart” – 25 yrs Public Administration) gilt bronze, 30.7 mm x 34.9 mm, obverse showing the portrait of Enrique Hart Dávalos, reverse with the emblem “SNTAP” above the map of Cuba with a star motif, on a ribbon of black, white and red.

7. (Distinción “Por la Educación Cubana”) Distinction for Cuban Education, gilt bronze, 30.2 mm x 34.4 mm, obverse depicting an open book flanked by laurel branches and inscribed “por la educación cubana,” reverse “Republica de Cuba Educación” surrounding a flaming torch with rays, on a ribbon of blue and white stripes.

8. (Distinción “Destacado en la Preparación para la Defensa”) Outstanding in the Preparation for Defence Distinction  silvered bronze, 30.2 mm x 35.4 mm, obverse with agricultural and industrial imagery featuring an AK-47 resting on a tree stump before a tractor and factory, reverse “República de cuba fuerzas armadas revolucionarias” around central inscription “destacado en la preparación para la defensa,” on a ribbon of pale blue, white and olive-green stripes.

9. (Medalla “Osvaldo Herrera”) gilt bronze, 30.4 mm x 35.5 mm, obverse with bust of Osvaldo Herrera, reverse “República de Cuba Consejo de Estado” around the Cuban arms, on a ribbon of blue with central orange and green stripes.

All items are in fine to very fine condition.

Footnote: The above group comprises Cuban civil and professional merit decorations awarded across distinct sectors of national service including education, construction, administration, and defense. These medals, most instituted in the post-1959 revolutionary period, were conferred by the Consejo de Estado or the relevant ministry in recognition of long service or distinguished achievement within the socialist framework. The inclusion of figures such as Antonio Maceo, Jesús Menéndez, Olo Pantoja, José Tey, Enrique Hart, and Osvaldo Herrera reflects Cuba’s practice of commemorating revolutionary and labor heroes within sector-specific honors.
