Cuba. Hero of the Republic of Cuba Award to Brigadier General Víctor E. Schueg Colás.

(Héroe de la República de Cuba) Hero of the Republic of Cuba, awarded posthumously to Brigadier General Víctor E. Schueg Colás by the Consejo de Estado of the Republic of Cuba on 8 September 2015, comprising a gilt five-pointed star, suspended from a ribbon in the national colours of Cuba, accompanied by its original Carné de Condecorado booklet comprising the original named award document issued by the Consejo de Estado, measuring 25.5 mm x 55 mm inclusive of suspension device, with light surface scratches to the enamel, in extremely fine condition.

Footnote: The Hero of the Republic of Cuba is the highest decoration awarded by the Republic of Cuba, reserved for individuals who rendered extraordinary service to the nation. Brigadier General Víctor E. Schueg Colás (1936–1998) joined the July 26 Movement at a young age before serving with the Frank País Second Eastern Front during the Cuban Revolution. Following the triumph of the Revolution, he undertook internationalist missions in Tanzania and the Congo alongside Ernesto “Che” Guevara. In 1975, he was among the first Cuban combatants deployed to Angola, serving as Chief of Staff of the Cuban Military Mission before assuming command of the Northern Front. Working alongside Angolan forces, he participated in operations that liberated numerous towns and secured Angola’s border with Zaire. Returning to Cuba in 1976, he was promoted to Brigadier General later that year. He was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba on 8 September 2015 in recognition of his distinguished military service.
