China, Republic. A Kuomintang Army Officer’s Service Cap, c.1944

A fine example of a wartime Kuomintang (alternatively referred to as Guomindang or Nationalist Party of China) Army Officer’s service cap, constructed entirely of olive-drab coloured felt blend fabric with a raised peak, consisting of a smooth oversized crown that protrudes past the base of the cap, with two rivets mounted horizontally side-by-side for air ventilation, cap band that transitions into the crown is constructed of coarsely woven, ribbed, olive-drab coloured cotton, mounted to the peak of the cap, is a cloth and bullion Kuomintang insignia, constructed of rolled aluminum bullion in the shape of a central sun with twelve rays on a dark blue wool backer, held in place by a pair of large wings equally crafted of bullion wire, with a brown leather chin strap that is held in place on either side of the cap by matching gilded bronze buttons equally displaying the Kuomintang insignia, chin strap rests upon a thick chocolate-brown leather visor, without creases or folds. The interior of the cap is lined pumpkin cotton-silk blended fabric, with a chocolate-brown leatherette sweatband that is folded up to hide the interior moisture wicking wool pad that is situated toward the front half of the cap, leather sweatband is marked with sizing of 7 1/8 denoting that this cap was likely American-made. Extremely fine with only minor mothing and light wear.
