Hardcover, textured red cloth cover, the embossed image of the soldier on the front cover and the text on the spine in gold-coloured ink, entitled "History of the 10th Royals and of the Royal Grenadiers, from the formation of the Regiment until 1896", by Thomas Edward Champion, respectfully dedicated by the author in September 1896, First Edition, printed and bound by The Hunter, Rose Company, Limited of Toronto, Ontario, published in 1896. It begins with a Preface and contains seven chapters: I - The First Militia Act. The Act of 1822. The Training Days. Interesting Details.; II - The Canadian Militia in 1837. The Royal Canadian Rifles. "A Dull Time." The Crimean War. The Militia Act of 1855.; III - The 100th Regiment. The Trent Affair of 1861. The Military Enthusiasm of the Period. The 10th Gazetted.; IV - Presentation of Colours to the Regiment by Mrs. Cumberland. Lieutenant-Colonel Cumberland Retires. The Fenian Raid.; V - The Reorganization of the Regiment under Lt.-Col. Grasett. Five Eventful Years.; VI - On the Way to the Northwest. Incidents of the Journey. The Battles at Fish Creek and Batoche. The Killed and Wounded.; VII - The Sergeant's Diary. Return to Toronto. How the City Received her Soldiers. Promotions and Appointments. Conclusion.. It concludes with an Appendix (Roll of officers. Roll of the Regiment. Mason in the frontispiece, along with a vellum placed in front of the lead page, measuring 130 mm (w) x 185 mm (h) x 26.5 mm (d). It exhibits light wear and soiling on the textured red cloth cover, along with spotting on the back cover, however, the pages within remain pristine. Better than very fine.
