Hardcover, dimpled forest green cloth cover, regimental insignia and text on the front cover along with the text on the spine in metallic red ink, entitled "The Royal Rifles of Canada in Hong Kong 1941-1945", copyrighted by the Hong Kong Veterans' Association of Canada, Quebec-Maritimes Branch in 1980, First Edition, printed in Canada by Progressive Publications (1970) Incorporated of Sherbrooke, Quebec, inscribed "This book is dedicated to the Officers and Men of the Royal Rifles of Canada who lost their lives in the Battle of Hong Kong 1941 and the Japanese Prisoners of War Camps 1941-1945" on page VII. It chronicles in great detail the trials and tribulations of the officers and men who were at the Battle of Hong Kong and of those who were imprisoned in the Japanese prisoner of war camps after the battle. It begins with four photos, followed by an Introduction, an Acknowledgements and a Table of Contents. It is divided into three parts: Part One: The 1st Battalion of the Royal Rifles of Canada, The Record of a Canadian Infantry Battalion in the Far East - 1941-1945 by Grant S. Garneau (the text taken from his university thesis), beginning with a Preface and containing twelve chapters under four headings: (i) Introduction: 1 - The Royal Rifles of Canada, September 1939 to December 1941; (ii) The Crown Colony of Hong Kong: 2 - Geographical Information; 3 - Strategic Position; 4 - The Decision to Reinforce The Colony; 5 - The Defences of The Colony; (iii) The Royal Rifles of Canada in Action: 6 - The Waiting Period, December 8-17, 1941; 7 - The Invasion of the Island, December 18-19, 1941; 8 - East Brigade Counter-Attacks, December 20-21 1941; 9 - The End of the Battle of Kong Kong, December 22-25, 1941; (iv) Imprisonment: 10 - North Point Camp, December 30, 1941 to September 26, 1941; 11 - Sham Shui Po Camp, September 26, 1942 to September 1, 1945; 12 - The Forgotten Men, The Drafts to Japan. This part concludes with a Conclusion, fifteen Appendices and a four-page Bibliography. Part Two: is designated as Illustrations. Part Three: The Fight to Survive (Personal Accounts), with seven categories: One - The Battle; Two - Prisoners; Three - Shamshuipo; Four - Japan; Five - Coming Home; Six - Readapting; Seven - The Last Battle.
