Description
Softcover, entitled "Insignes Canadiens - 1920-1950 - Canadian Badges, Revised Edition" by Daniel Mazéas, MHS, CSMMI, MCCC (Military Historical Society, Canadian Society of Military Medals & Insignia, Military Collectors' Club of Canada) and published by Les Presses Bretonnes of Guingamp, Bretagne, France in 1985. It comprises multiple hand-drawn line illustrations of the cap badges, collar badges and shoulder titles of the various Canadian Army units used, encompassing the years 1920 to 1950, with dated institution taglines, and is considered to be the standard reference book on Canadian Army cap badges. The front cover illustrates a Lorne Rifles (Scottish) shoulder belt plate, while the back cover features a Canadian General Service badge. It is divided into five parts: Part I - Corps & Services; Part II - Cavalry; Part III - Infantry; Part IV - Canadian Officers' Training Corps; Part V - Varia & Air Force; and concludes with a four page "Filiations" (Lineage) chart. Although some of the drawings are crude, it remains a good reference for getting the general patterns of the badges. They are drawn to scale, allowing one to check an actual badge against the illustration, in order to see if it is a pre-1950 badge (often, these badges became smaller in size, to fit the new Canadian Forces uniforms of the late 1960's, but the pattern remained the same). It contains 144 pages, the text and illustrations printed in black ink, on a white paper stock, measuring 150 mm (w) x 218 mm (h) x 7 mm (d). Many of the illustrations are underlined in pink or red marker, with a few handwritten notes added throughout the book. There is a foil antique militia dealer's label placed on the inside front cover, in addition to page 141-142 being loose versus the perfect binding. It exhibits edge wear on the back cover and along the spine, with slight scuff marks overall. Very fine.
Footnote: Daniel Mazéas is also the author of "Insignes De La Milice Canadienne - Canadian Militia Badges Pre 1914", published by Les Presses Bretonnes of Guingamp, Bretagne, France in 1990.
Reference Guide Shipping Policy: An additional shipping charge may be applicable following the time of purchase due to size, weight, and quantity. Please note that books cannot be shipped via Canada Post Flat Tracked method.
