Description
Battledress Blouse: A lightly worn and saughtafter example in wool with a green tinge to the darker khaki colour, giving it that distinctive Canadian-appearance, adorned with British made, paper backed shoulder flashes for THE BLACK WATCH OF CANADA R.H.R., accompanied by blue paper backed rectangular patches representative of the 2nd Canadian Division sewn in place on the upper sleeves on both sides. Below the division insignia, rank chevrons are secured in place by a cross stitch. On the right sleeve, a British made embroidered upward-pointing chevrons, the top four are in red representing each complete year of continuous service, the bottom one in silver indicating that the recipient joined in the first year of the war (1939), which is in addition to and placed underneath any red chevrons granted, with all five chevrons on a brownish-green wool field. Both shoulders incorporate button down epaulette straps, both straps secured in place via a brownish-green finished magnetic metal button. The collar shows very light wear and the left side has been hand sewn down to secure folding button. The front has two pockets, one on each breast which have decorative straps giving them a pleated-look with brownish-green finished metal buttons at the top, each pocket with a fold over flap and when lifted up, exposes a reinforced buttonhole. Interestingly, a single foreign ribbon bar affixed to above left pocket, likely a 15 year long service award. Inside, the left side pocket stamped in black ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow production insignia, the right side with the manufacturer's stamp inscribed "BATTLE DRESS BLOUSE SERGE / SIZE 9 / HEIGHT 5'7 - 5'8" / BREAST 39 - 40/ HYDE PARK INDUSTRIES LIMITED / MONTREAL 1943". Overall, an excellent example for the 2nd Division and remains very fine.
