A Pilot’s Seat Parachute with complete harness featuring a four piece turn lock, which is set above the bag, back rigging, ‘seat’, and canopy bag. The latter is marked R.C.A.F. STANDARD PARACHUTE TYPE: SEAT, QUICK-RELEASE M’F’G NO.: S 17763 DATE: AUG 31 1942 on the back. The canopy is inside the bag but has not been opened in order to protect the integrity of the stitching. A scarce piece of aviation history, exhibiting minimal wear with great visible markings, in very fine condition.
Inclusive of its carrying bag of khaki construction, a small section of zipper is torn away from the edge, exhibiting wear and several holes, handles intact, remains in very fine condition.
Footnote: This type of parachute was used extensively in training and combat during the Second War. It was used by pilots of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) in Canada. This program played a pivotal role in training Allied aircrew in various countries.
Since their establishment in 1920, Switlik Parachute Co. has been owned and operated by the Switlik family for four generations and is known worldwide as a manufacturer of the highest quality sewn and heat sealed inflatable safety and survival products for the aviation, marine, and military/government markets.
