A seven piece medal bar, court mounted, with horizontal pin on the reverse, measures 170 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), comprising: 
A 1939-1945 Star, in yellow copper-zinc, light wear, very fine. 
An Atlantic Star with FRANCE AND GERMANY clasp, in yellow copper-zinc, light wear, very fine. 
An Africa Star with AFRICA 1942-43 clasp, in yellow copper-zinc, light wear, very fine. 
A Defense medal, in cupro-nickel, plated, very fine.
A Newfoundland Service Medal, in bronze, rim impressed 2815, minor wear, very fine. 
A War Medal, in cupro-nickel, plated, very fine.
A 125th Confederation Medal, rhodium plated copper and zinc alloy, very fine.

The Newfoundland Volunteer War Service Medal was created to honour men and women from the Dominion of Newfoundland who volunteered for military or wartime service before Newfoundland joined Canada in 1949. The medal recognized service in organizations such as the Royal Navy, merchant marine, forestry units, and other Allied wartime services. Because Newfoundland occupied a vital strategic position in the Battle of the Atlantic, many Newfoundlanders served in dangerous convoy escort and naval operations across the North Atlantic.

The rank of Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class indicates that E.J. Hall was a senior non-commissioned naval rating, likely holding supervisory or technical responsibilities aboard ship or at a naval establishment.
