A Memorial Cross, in silver, reverse engraved C2088 Spr D. M. NIGRAS, with 6 o’clock arm marked STERLING, full size, worn on purple ribbon, very dark patina, in extremely fine condition. Contained in the original case of issue, black leatherette exterior with silk and velvet interior, functional hinge creating a crisp seal, light wear, very fine condition.
Accompanied by paper records of the Court Case dated August 14, 1940.
Footnote: Daniel Michael Nigras was born in Ottawa, in 1917. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers for the Second war in 1939, and went overseas with the First Division.
On July 27, 1940, Sapper Nigra was killed by a gunshot wound to the head. While the court case states that this may have been self inflicted, the court ruled that the potentially self inflicted wound may not have been intentional. Therefore his death was ruled accidental.
