Battledress Blouse: exterior in wool with a green tinge to the darker khaki colour, giving it that distinctive Canadian-look versus the British version, of which the Canadian one is patterned after, adorned with CALGARY HIGHLANDERS CANADA embroidered shoulder flashes, along with 70 mm (w) x 50 mm (h) rectangular patches representative of the 2nd Canadian Division in blue wool sewn in place on the upper sleeves on both sides. Both shoulders incorporate button down epaulette straps, both straps secured in place via a brown plastic button. The front has two pockets, one on each breast which have decorative straps giving them a pleated-look with brownish-green finished metal buttons at the top, each pocket with a fold over flap and when lifted up, exposes a reinforced buttonhole. When the buttons are fastened, they remain invisible to the eye, covered by the flaps. The front has a vertical row of four brownish-green finished metal buttons on the right side, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side, similarly covered by a full-length flap, again remaining invisible to the eye, the waistline at the front with a strap on the left side, and when fed through the metal belt loop on the right side, ensures a snug fit at the waist. Both sleeves have button down cuffs with brownish-green finished metal buttons on both sides, with three reinforced ventilation holes in each armpit. The forearm on the right sleeve with two red embroidered upward-pointing chevrons on a brownish-green wool field, representing each complete year of continuous service. Inside, the waistline is reinforced with a 70 mm wide cotton band, with three reinforced button holes at the rear, the inside lapel on both sides have deep cotton-lined pockets with side entries, the left side pocket stamped in black ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow production insignia, along with the manufacturer's stamp inscribed "WORKMAN UNIFORM CO. LTD. MONTREAL (1941) / 5' - 5" & 6" / 34 - 35" flanked by a large "4" on either side, measuring 420 mm across the shoulders and 500 mm in length overall.
2 Beret: the exterior in brown wool, the left front with a 47.5 mm (w) x 52.5 mm (h) Calgary Highlanders cap badge, the base in die-stamped bronze gilt and bearing a white metal beaver insignia, the cap badge resting upon a large tartan swatch and secured in place via lugs and pin, two brown finished metal eyelets for ventilation placed at the rear, topped with a green toorie, interior lined in black cotton with a faded maker mark in the dome, measuring 266 mm in width x 260 mm in length.
3. Mark II Brodie Helmet: in steel, non-magnetic, in brown, the helmet with a protective edge, inside with a steel-framed cradle supporting a black rubberized liner with five "fingers" (panels), underside of the liner with a green canvas support, size stamped in yellow ink "6 3/4" on the underside of one liner flap on the right side, eight wedge-shaped rubber pads against the sidewall, cross-shaped rubber pad held in place with a single bolt in the dome, stamped with the maker "C.L./C." (Canadian Lamp Company) and the date "1942" on the underside at the rear, steel brackets with loops riveted in place on either side and housing a khaki canvas strap with a black finished adjustable buckle, measuring 285 mm in width x 305 mm in length x 110 mm in height, exhibiting scuff marks, a bit of white paint and surface rust.
4. Pair of Boots: in dark brown leather, moisture-resistant finish, lace-up style with brown laces fed through nine pairs of dark brown finished metal eyelets on the front, strap affixed to the outside and fed through a metal buckle at the opening, thick layered soles, steel plates screwed in place at the toe and on the heel, size marked "8 M" (medium width) in the arched area on the sole, measuring approximately 100 mm in width x 295 mm in length x 260 mm in height each.
5. Pair of Puttes: in khaki web canvas, the front with two brass length adjustment buckles with brass tabs, the back stamped in black ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow production insignia, along with the manufacturer's stamp inscribed "Z.L. & T. Ltd." (Zephyr Loom and Textile Limited), dated "1941" along with a large "4", measuring 150 in width x 410 mm in length each.
6. Binoculars Case: in khaki web canvas, without binoculars and converted to a carry case (originally used to carry one pair of 6 x 30 issue binoculars, generally discarded in the field in favour of slinging the binos around the neck), with brass buckles on either side, wide khaki web canvas with dual prong clips for attachment to a waist belt on the reverse, snap closure on the front, stamped in black ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow production insignia and a faded maker mark on the underside of the cap that is possibly inscribed "N.W. & S. Ltd." and dated "1941"; the case currently houses a boot brush and sewing kit, measuring 180 mm in width x 70 mm in depth x 160 in height.
7. Boot Brush: stamped with the maker mark "BOECKH / MADE IN CANADA / SINCE 1856 / 1940" along with the company's insignia on the wooden base, with multiple black horsehair bristles, the base measuring 50 mm in width x 170 mm in length.
8. Sewing Kit: in khaki cotton, stamped in black ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow production insignia on the exterior, the interior stamped in blue ink with the manufacturer's stamp inscribed "S.S. HOLDEN LTD. / OTTAWA, CANADA" and dated "1942" on the inside, the sewing kit with three pockets housing assorted needles, buttons and thread, the closure incorporating two cotton ties, measuring 130 mm in width x 340 mm in length when fully opened.
9. Haversack: in khaki cotton, inside with five pockets, housing an anti-gas mask with canister (respirator), a anti-gas ointment tin and fpur eyeshields, stamped in black ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow production insignia, marked with the initials "G. P." framed by slashes, "MII" (Mark II) and marked with a faded maker mark on the underside of the flap inscribed "S.S. HOLDEN LTD. / OTTAWA, CANADA" and dated "1942", two snap closures on the front, brass disk with holes for venting on the bottom, with khaki web shoulder strap, measuring 280 mm in width x 70 mm in depth x 200 mm in height.
10. Anti-Gas Mask and Canister (Respirator): mask in black rubber incorporating two glass eye disks (lenses) with metal frames, marked "NORMAL" on the left side and "BFG" above "1/42" (January 1942) on the right side, the back of the head plate stiff and attached to the mask via three elasticized straps at six locations, the plate stamped in white ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow production insignia and marked in yellow ink "No. 4 MK I / KAUFMANN" with the production date faded, the mask itself measuring approximately 200 mm in width x 210 mm in height, painted aluminum mouthpiece affixed to a elongated plate via a nut and screw combination, adjoining aluminum coupling marked "2" above a circle inscribed " '40", inserted into a black rubber articulated hose, the other end of which is wrapped in cloth and fed into a metal canister, the exterior of which is painted in red, the top stamped in black ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow production insignia and embossed "4/2/42 0" and "SBT 162", the bottom of the canister stamped with the maker mark "GSW" (General Steel Ware of Toronto, Ontario) and "No. 4A", along with the embossed codes "DR/1" above "E/V1", the canister measuring 110 mm in width x 140 mm in height x 70 mm in depth and exhibiting loss of red paint on the raised ridges due to contact.
11. Eyeshields: housing four eyeshields in clear plastic with leather frame and black elastic straps, three in their original unopened kraft paper wrappers, the other one having been previously opened, all in a cardboard sleeve marked "6, EYESHIELDS, ANTI-GAS, MK. II", measuring 210 mm in width x 100 in height x 15 mm in depth, exhibiting tattered edges and tearing.
12. Anti-Gas Ointment Kit: in tin metal, yellow exterior, the lid marked "OINTMENT / ANTI-GAS No. 2", instructions for use on the bottom, full and unused, containing its original tubes for application, measuring 110 mm in width x 75 mm in height x 16 mm in depth, exhibiting denting and surface rust. All items exhibit normal field wear. As Worn and/or Used.
