Acquired together from an estate, both named on interior pocket to Captain William Berkeley Stark who was a physician with the Royal Canadian Medical Corps throughout the war. Born in Toronto, Stark would join the CEF in February 1916 having previously served with the R.C.M.C. Stark would go on to serve in both England and France with the Ontario Military Hospital, Orpington, C.A.M.C. Depot Shornecliffe, and most notably, No.1 Canadian General Hospital. This hospital, located in Étaples, France from 1915 onwards, was a primary allied medical centre where Stark was heavily involved in treating the evacuated wounded from the front lines. Lot includes aaan extremely well made officers 4 button tunic, complete with all Canadian Medical Corps brass and insignia, well badged with all officer pips and rank insignia, embroidered 3 year chevron son right sleeve, interior in green silk and makers tag on interior picket Beauchamp & How, Ltd, and named to Capt. W.B.Stark; also included is his great coat, in typical heavy field green wool, also manufactured by Beauchamp & How, Ltd, and named to Stark in black ink, leather braided buttons with some discolouration, very fine as a lot and an excellent example of a front line physicians tunic and great coat.
William Berkeley Stark was born on 25 September 1890, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, his father, Thomas Henry Stark, was 34 and his mother, Jennie Alice Smith, was 28. He married Eveline Grace Gooderham on 13 January 1916, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He died on 25 November 1981, at the age of 91, and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
