A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim impressed 348788 SJT. J.H. ANDREWS. C.F.A., light wear, dark patina, very fine.
A Victory medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 348788 SJT. J.H. ANDREWS. C.F.A., minor wear, extremely fine.
Footnote: James Harman Andrews was born in Coaticook, Quebec in August 1892. He was residing in his birth town working as a drug clerk, with three years of experience with the Victoria Rifles, when he enlisted in February 1916.
Andrews was awarded the military medal in 1917. The citation reads:
“On the 9th of Nov: when in action near ST. JULIEN their battery was under heavy shell fire during the time allotted for registration. All the personnel had been cleared from the position when this man volunteered to man the gun, and under most trying circumstances passed from gun to gun until registration was completed. His great disregard for personal danger and devotion to duty enabled the battery to be registered in time for our attack on the 10th. Nov”
