Canada, CEF. A First War Memorial Cross to Pte. Jackson, 15th Battalion

A Memorial Cross, in silver, reverse machine engraved 27566 Pte. C.R. JACKSON., full size, worn on tattered segment of original ribbon, dark patina to obverse, remains very fine. Accompanied by the original case of issue, black leatherette exterior with silk and velvet interior, remains in very fine condition. 

Footnote: Charles Rowland Jackson was born in New York, USA. in 1890. He was employed as a wire drawer with 3 years of experience with the 48th highlanders prior to enlisting for the First War at Valcartier in September 1914. 

He began serving with the 15th Canadian Battalion. He was reported missing in April 1915, but was later reported safe at present. He was taken on strength by the 1st Canadian Division in December 1915. However he was reverted back to the 15th Battalion in August 1916. 

He was hospitalized for several months in 1917 for V.D.H. Mitral, while stationed in Somme at the end of 1916. 

He was seen by medical board for cardio-renal disease in March 1917. Jackson was hospitalized at Kings Canadian Red Cross Hospital in May 1917 for nephritis. He died on June 17, 1917. His death was ruled “exposure incident to military service.”
