A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim impressed 223366 PTE. C.H. JONES. 85-CAN. INF., lovely patina, in extremely fine condition.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 223366 PTE. C.H. JONES. 85-CAN. INF, light wear, extremely fine.
A Services Rendered Badge, in silver, reverse numbered 074991, measures 32.8 mm in diameter, reverse bears a single vertical pin.
A ‘For Services At The Front’ badge, in bronze and enamels, reverse numbered 59783, measures 22.2 mm (in diameter), horizontal pin on the reverse, light wear, near very fine.
A War Amputations of Canada badge, brass and enamels, reverse offers a screwpost and screwplate, numbered T680, measures 23.2 mm (w) x 20.3 mm (h), light wear and loss of green enamel, near very fine.
A 1914-1918 British L.E.S.M.A Badge (Limbless Ex-Servicemen Association), in brass gilt and enamels, reverse offers a buttonhole fitting, measures 28.7 mm (w) x 22.7 mm (h), gilt loss and small enamel chips, near very fine.
Footnote: Charles Hubert Jones was born in Cardiff, England in 1894. He was a coal miner with about 12 months experience with the Detaining Force in Amherst,. Nova Scotia, when he enlisted for the Great War in November 1915 with the 85th battalion.
In June 1917, He was wounded in the left arm, but rejoined the unit roughly one week later. Jones was then wounded by a gunshot wound to the left thigh in July 1917, and was subsequently admitted to the 4th General Hospital. From there, he was moved to the 44th Casualty Clearing Station at the end of October. He became dangerously ill and the leg was amputated.
Jones was invalided to Canada in May 1918. He was fitted for an artificial limb in Toronto in 1919.
