A three piece bar, swing mounted, horizontal pin on the reverse, comprising:
A 1914-15 Star, in bronze gilt, reverse impressed 54052 A.CPL S.H.L.TOOKE. 18/CAN: INF:, full size, light gilt wear, light soiling to ribbon, remains very fine.
A British War Medal, in silver, rim impressed 54052 A.CPL S.H.L.TOOKE. 18-CAN. INF., full size, dark patina, light contact marks, very fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, rim impressed 54052 A.CPL S.H.L.TOOKE. 18-CAN. INF., full size, light scratches and contact marks, very fine.
A Village of Paisley for First War Service Medal, in silver, obverse PTE H. L. S. TOOKE., on ribbon with ACTIVE SERVICE and CANADA Clasp, measures 31.7 mm (w) x 35.5 mm (h), silver wear to edges, very fine.
An ID bracelet, marked PTE. F. W. B. TOOKE. 160 TH. O.S. BN. C.E.F. 651827 PROTESTANT, in aluminum, on chain, very fine.
Footnote: Samuel Harold Leslie Tooke was born in Paisley, Ontario, in February 1896. He was a tinsmith when he enlisted on October 27th, 1914 in Walkerton, Ontario. He arrived in England via the SS Grampian in April 1915 with the 18th battalion. By June 6th, he was made acting corporal. Tooke embarked for France in September, and was slightly wounded in November. He spent three days in the hospital before returning to his unit. He was back in the hospital in February 1917 for a short time.
He was discharged due to demobilization and returned to Canada in May 1919.
The ID bracelet belongs to Frederick Walter Burton Tooke, born in 1883 in Paisley, Ontario. He enlisted in February 1916 with the 160th battalion. In 1912, he fell from a stone wall, injuring his back and left hip. He never completely recovered from this injury, and was discharged as medically unfit in September 1916.
