A General Service Medal with FENIAN RAID 1866 Clasp, in silver, full size, rim impressed Pte. J. B. Wilson 37th Bn., worn on original ribbon, lovely patina, minor contact marks, extremely fine condition.

Footnote: James B Wilson is present on the Medal Roll for the 37th Battalion, which was entitled to the Fenian Raid 1870 clasp.

The 37th Battalion (Haldimand Rifles) was called to active service during the Fenian Raids of 1870, when renewed threats from Fenian forces along the Canada–United States border prompted the mobilization of Canadian militia units. Stationed in defence of the Niagara frontier and surrounding regions, the battalion formed part of Canada’s growing volunteer militia system, helping to deter cross-border incursions during a formative period in the country’s military history.
