Description

(Знак за ранение), gilt and silvered bronze with enamels, multi-piece construction, the obverse featuring a crowned oval oak leaf wreath enclosing a central shield with red and light blue enamel fields, overlaid by a gilt lion seated upon a shield bearing the numeral “1” denoting one wound, the base with a scroll inscribed “ЗА РАНЯВАНЕ” (For Wounding), the reverse with a domed backplate and central screwpost, marked in Cyrillic text with the Milosheva of Sofia maker mark and coded “3-19-84” on the support plate, measuring approximately 40 mm in height, with light enamel wear and contact marks, in very fine condition.

Footnote: The Bulgarian Wound Badge was instituted during the reign of Tsar Boris III and awarded to military personnel wounded in action, with different grades indicating the number of wounds sustained, the numeral “1” representing the first award for a single combat wound.
