Description
(Imperial Ordem da Rosa). Instituted on October 17, 1829 by Dom Pedro I. In silver gilt, a beautiful Order of the Rose, featuring a white enamel six arm cross with ball finials, clusters of smooth rays in each quadrant, each section of rays offering three lovely hand painted roses with green enamel leaves superimposed at each exterior edge, the center medallion in Gold features the hand chiseled cypher of Pedro I, blue enamelled surround with Motto AMOR E FIDELIDADE (LOVE AND FIDELITY), the star is surmounted by a Brazilian Imperial Crown with an interior green enamelled cap, the reverse with a single pin assembly flanked by dual stays, bears the maker cartouche of FOYELLE POUTEAU PALAIS – ROYAL, marked on the catch with a boars head denoting Paris origins from 1838-1962 and 800 silver fineness, the star measures 64.05mm (w) x 87.30mm (h – inclusive of surmounting crown), weighs 56.1 grams, two roses display heavy enamel damage, small hairline cracks in white enamel arms, small chip in green enamel cap, hinge and catch functional, remains in near extremely fine condition.
