(Imperial Ordem da Rosa). Instituted on 17 October 1829. A large Senhor star in silver gilt, with a finely enamelled white star, with ball finials, affixed to base with three rivets, with three pink enamelled roses on green laurels in each quadrant, (Inspired by the motifs of roses that adorned the dress of Amélie of Leuchtenberg, wife of Emperor Pedro I), obverse centre exhibiting the hand chiseled cypher of Pedro I, blue enamelled surround with Motto AMOR E FIDELIDADE (LOVE AND FIDELITY), reverse with pin assembly, large makers plate of G. Wolfers, Bruxelles, denoting date of manufacture from 1888 to 1930, hallmarked on pin and catch with boars head denoting French small silver guarantee post 1838, also marked on reverse of pin with specialized provincial (Départements) ordinance Bigorne in the form of a grasshopper in bird's eye view, measuring 74.14 mm (w) x 71.84 mm (h), weighing 78.4 grams, heavily toned silver, with minor enamel loss to laurels, otherwise very fine fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
