(Ordem do Mérito Brasília). Instituted in 1971. Four-piece construction, cross insignia in bronze gilt with red and white enamels, mounted to an eight-pointed silver star base, the reverse cartouche in bronze gilt, unmarked, measuring 75.5 mm (w) x 75.5 mm (h), vertical pinback, chipping and loss evident in the red enamels on the "Mérito Brasília" centrepiece, contact marks, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of Merit of Brasília was instituted on January 27, 1971 by the government of the Federal District by Decree No. 1596 led by Hélio Prates da Silveira, the Governor of the Federal District. It is awarded to Brazilian and foreign personalities, civil or military, who have become worthy of gratitude or admiration from the People and the Government of the Federal District, for contributions and services to Brasília, in six grades: Grand Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
