(Ordre de Couronne). Instituted in 1897. A finely toned silver set featuring a sash badge in gilt with blue, white and green enamels, reverse with royal monogram on blue enamel field, measuring 55.78 mm (w) x 79.75 mm (h- inclusive of its wreath and laterally-pierced ball suspension), 71.4 grams, hallmarked on ring A835, with enamel contact from wear, on full length sash; accompanied by the large star of the order, also well toned in silver with blue and white enamels, mounted to a silver gilt ten-pointed star, each star point with five faceted rays, alternating with smooth rays in each quadrant, measuring 84.56 mm (w) x 85.05 mm (h), 104.4 grams, makers cartouche on reverse centre HENRI WALRAVENS & CO, with vertical pinback, two stays, heavy patina, with wear to star ray tips, very fine.
Footnote: The Order was instituted on 15 October 1897 by King Leopold II and is one of Belgium’s highest honors. It recognized heroic deeds and distinguished service achieved for service in the Congo Free State.
