(Ordre de Couronne). Instituted in 1897. Sash badge in silver gilt with blue, white and green enamels, measuring 57.8 mm (w) x 79.5 mm (h- inclusive of its wreath and laterally-pierced ball suspension), reverse with royal monogram on blue enamel field, loop affixed to a correct replacement full-length sash with bow, with light knocks to cross tips, very fine. Accompanied by the star of the order in silver gilt with blue and white enamels, mounted to a silver gilt ten-pointed star, each star point with five rays, alternating in design, five are faceted, while the other are plain and trimmed with a beaded border, measuring 80.5 mm (w) x 86.7 mm (h), vertical pinback, and two stays, heavy patina, with wear to star ray tips, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order was instituted on 15 October 1897 by King Leopold II and is one of Belgium’s highest honors. It recognized heroic deeds and distinguished service achieved for service in the Congo Free State.
