(Ordre de Couronne). Instituted in 1897 by King Leopold II. An enameled white five-armed double-ended cross in silver gilt, exhibiting multiple silver-gilt rays in each quadrant, suspended by an enameled green laurel wreath also in silver gilt, the obverse illustrating a Belgium crown with a finely enameled blue background, reverse with Leopold II monogram also on a nice blue background, measuring 55.07 mm (w) x 74.11 mm (h - inclusive of its wreath suspension), presenting lost of green enamels, scattered gilt wear, on a full-length original neck ribbon, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Crown was established by King Leopold II by Royal Decree on October 15, 1897. It was originally created as an Order of the Congo Free State, but it was later was integrated into the national hierarchy of decorations in Belgium after the Congo Free State ceased to exist as a private domain of King Leopold II in 1908. The King is Grand Master.
