Bavaria, Kingdom. A Railway/Supply Troops Dark Blue Tellermütze

(Bayern Dunkelblau Tellermütze für Eisenbahntruppen). A well-preserved and high-quality Bavarian railway/supply troops Dunkelblau (Dark Blue) Tellermütze, constructed of dark blue wool. The cap features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a smooth light blue cap band. A length of light blue piping trims the top edge of the cap band, while a length of identical piping lines the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is a magnetic metal Imperial red, white, and black tri-colour cockade, measuring 23 mm in diameter. Directly below the national cockade, the centre of the cap band is pinned with a magnetic metal cockade finished in blue and silver (in lieu of white) Bavarian colour scheme, measuring 20 mm in diameter. The interior of the cap band is lined with a brown leather sweatband retaining a two-piece aluminum leatherworker’s mark. A brown rayon liner fully encompassed the interior of the crown. Unmarked with the exception of the leatherworker’s tags, the cap measures approximately 23.5 cm in diameter. Minor issues consistent with age and field wear are evident, and include sporadic mothing to the cap band with additional fatigue of the crown material, some loss of paint to the cockades, material fatigue to the sweatband, soiling of the interior liner, and bending of the overall structure. A privately-purchased example of superior quality, the cap remains in better than very fine condition.
