Bavaria, Kingdom. A Pair of Epaulettes for a Commander of the Order of St. George, with Case

(Paar Epauletten zur Hof-Uniform des Haus-Ritterordens von  Orden vom heiligen Georg). A rare and superb set of epaulettes for a Commander of the Order of St. Georg, each constructed of a red wool base, topped by a layer of silver aluminum wire bearing hand-embroidered sequins of identical construction, bearing three signs of the Order of St. George situated against a floral base which extends from a clamshell-style decoration at the our edge, terminating at the outer edge in a crescent border with an intricate twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire fringe, the inner edge of each epaulette embroidered with a silvered metal button similarly bearing a raised depiction of the order, both unmarked and measuring 19 cm (w) x 19 cm (l) (as configured for wear), secreted within their period original storage case, of two-piece card stock construction, the lid bearing hand-written description of the contents, otherwise unmarked, measuring 18 cm (w) x 26 cm (l) x 9 cm (h), demonstrating minor and age-appropriate material fatigue to both the epaulettes and case, a stunning set of exceptional quality produced c. 1850 for a recipient of one of Bavaria's most distinguished orders, in overall near extremely fine condition.
