(Militärverdienstmedaillen “Signum Laudis”). Instituted March 12th, 1890. (c. 1960 Museum Exhibition Examples). A lot of two Austrian Imperial Military Merit Medals, consisting of:
1. Military Merit Medal (Karl I). A circular gilded bronze medal, the obverse depicting the rightward facing profile of Karl I that is circumscribed by his name and title in Latin, the reverse inscribed “Signum Laudis” in capitalized Latin within a partial laurel/oak leaf wreath, on an affixed double-crowned suspension with laurels in the background, suspended from its period original tri-fold war ribbon, measuring 37.5 mm in diameter, weighing 29.56 grams.
2. Military Merit Medal (Franz Joseph). A circular gilded silver (tested) medal, the obverse depicting the rightward facing bust of Franz Joseph that is circumscribed by his name and title in Latin, the reverse inscribed “Signum Laudis” in capitalized Latin within a partial laurel/oak leaf wreath, on a swivel crown for suspension from its period original tri-fold war ribbon, measuring 37.8 mm in diameter, weighing 26.62 grams.
