Austria, Imperial. An Order of Maria Theresa, Knight, by Rothe, c.1916

(Militär Maria Theresien Orden). Instituted June 18, 1757. Of high quality, in silver gilt, presenting a white enamelled Geneva Cross with waved arm finials, the obverse with central medallion featuring enamelled background with the Austrian national colours (red-white-red), surrounded by a white enamelled outsider ring inscribed FORTITUDINI (Fortitude), the reverse with an enamelled medallion inscribed MTF for Maria Theresa Franciscus, surrounded by a green enamelled laurel wreath, measuring 30.2 mm (w) x 32.9 mm (h - inclusive of integral suspension), weighs 8.29 grams, marked on the integral suspension ring with a partial FR denoting Rothe manufacture, and an Austrian dog head denoting silver composition, suspended from a loop and worn on a period trifold ribbon with sewn clasp, a scarce decoration in better than extremely fine condition.
