Description

Instituted October 24, 1849. In silver gilt, with red and white enamelled cross, wreath in the quadrants between the arms, reverse in plain white enamels, marked on the suspension with a VM denoting Vincent Mayer & Sohne, A for Vienna manufacture and a Diana’s head (Dianakopf) (which was used between 1872 and 1922), the head flanked by a "2" on the left, worn on triangular ribbon with swords device, measures 31.0mm (w) x 34.4mm (h - inclusive of suspension), weighs 17.8 grams, enamels intact, remains in very fine condition.

Contained in its original case of issue, deep red exterior marked MILITAER VERDIENSTKREUZ III. KLASSE K.D., the interior with a silk lid marked V.MAYERS & SOHNE, with black velvet recessed medalbed, measures 66mm (w) x 115mm (l) x 21mm (d), hinge and catch functional, minor wear, in very fine condition.
