(Militärverdienstkreuz). Instituted on October 24th, 1849. Type II (1914-1918 Issue). A Military Merit Cross III Class, of multi-piece construction, in silver with red and white enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with red and white enamelled arms, with laurel leaves in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central white enamelled medallion inscribed with “VERDIENST” (Merit), the reverse with white enamelled arms and a white enamelled center medallion, measures 30.5 mm (w) x 34.0 mm (h), weighs 16.71 grams, marked with an Austrian silver mark on suspension, connected via a double barrelled loop for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon, gilt loss to obverse, a lovely decoration in extremely fine condition.
(Tapferkeitsmedaille). Instituted July 19th, 1789. Type IV (1914-1916 Issue). A Bravery Medal I. Class, a round silver medal, the obverse depicting a rightward-facing effigy of Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria, circumscribed “Franz Joseph I.V.G.G Kaiser v. Oesterreich”, marked “Leisek” near the bottom, the reverse inscribed “Der Tapferkeit” (For Bravery) within a laurel wreath with banners at the base, measuring 40.2mm in diameter, weighing 22.96 grams, with original flat suspension and connected to its period original ribbon featuring a single repetition clasp, dark patina, contact marks throughout, in overall very fine condition.
