An Early Prussian 2Nd Garde Ulanen (Guards Uhlan) Regiment Passport

Measuring 81x136mm, better than fine condition light scuffing and creasing, a small rip at the bottom, period repairs, and a double page having come loose; in original protective cover. The military passport was issued to Unteroffizier (NCO) Klingelhoeffer, dated to Potsdam on September 22, 1881.

Footnote: Friedrich Wilhelm Klingelhoeffer was born March 19, 1857 in Wetter (Hesse). He joined the army on November 9, 1878 and was deployed to the 2nd Garde Ulanen (Guards Uhlan) Regiment, stationed in Berlin. On September 24, 1880, Klingelhoeffer was promoted to Gefreiter (Lance Corporal), and on November 7, 1883 to Unteroffizier (NCO). The passport contains two entries of a Garde Train Battalion, however, they are very difficult to read. “Train” in French and German military language refers to logistics and transport units. The entires are dated to May 19, 1883, and again to an unknown date in 1885. Klingelhoeffer was discharged on September 23, 1887 after successful completion of his military service time, and transferred to the Reserve of his Garde Train Battalion.
