A fine iron cross with silver frame and complete, intact iron core, measuring 41mm, silver frame slightly pulling away from core at reverse 10 o'clock knee, on long, wide original ribbon, an excellent example in better than very fine condition. Acquired from the estate of Major Friedrich Franz von Hanstein.
Footnote: Karl Georg Anton Friedrich von Hanstein was born on October 27, 1809 in Ershauifen-Unterhof (district of Heiligenstadt), to his father, Friedrich Adolf Heinrich Christian Franz von Hanstein, and his mother, Friederike Charlotte von Hanstein. His father was born on December 31, 1771 in Ershaufen, retired from the Army as a Major, and died on December 15, 1838 in Schippenbeil. His mother was born on September 24, 1788 in Romsdorf, and died on December 15, 1848 in Schippenbeil.

May 15, 1828: second lieutenant
1838: deployed to the Training Infantry Battalion
January 15, 1838: permission to get married
May 16, 1844: first lieutenant

November 8, 1855: Major and Commander of the 3rd Battalion (Tilsit) of the 1st Landwehr (Homeland Militia) Regiment
June 8, 1858: deployed to the 3rd Infantry Regiment
January 11, 1859: Red Eagle Order 4th Class
June 16 to September 30, 1860: director of combined division school of the 1st A. K. (?)
July 1, 1860: Lieutenant Colonel
June 22, 1861: Commander of the Infantry Regiment No. 16
